"WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW," THEY SAID. "THE WORDS WILL COME."
I was ten years old and already enthralled with words. But for a long time I didn't know anything. Then one day sixty years worth of long forgotten memories, past experiences, and simple truths began resurfacing, demanding to be set free. A battered old guitar inspired simple melodies I could put words to. They turned into story songs, but lacked structure and rambled aimlessly. They sucked. I realized songs and melodies need structure. So I started going to workshops. Small, safe, intimate sanctuaries where you sit in a room for three days listening to respected song writers impart their knowledge, wisdom, and encouragement to those aspiring to be able to write their own truths.
